Romeo and Juliet

On 9th February 2012 some students attending the 1st (1^DI) and 2nd (2^BI) classes of I.I.S. "G. MARCONI" saw the play "Romeo and Juliet" at the Duse theatre in Genoa. The show was directed by Giuseppe Marini and produced by the Teatro Stabile del Veneto "Carlo Goldoni" in collaboration with the Silvio D'Amico Drama Academy in Rome and the Palcoscenico Academy in Padua. At his third meeting with W.Shakespeare, Giuseppe Marini portrayed the highest form of poetic investigation on the true nature of love. In fact, the story takes place in a fictional Verona, characterized by life, motion, parties, dances, masks and it tells about young, intense passion and kisses, but also about deadly duels, hatred and violence that divide the two most powerful families in the city. The main theme is love, a love "born under a bad star" that, on its first appearance, meets the shadow of death because only death and tragedy inspire such a strong, pure passion which doesn't leave space to compromise. "The fable - notes the director- was my first suggestion in the approach to this work, the most experimental of Shakespeare's plays but, undoubtedly, the most famous". The students really enjoyed the performance ; actually they had already read the play and worked on the text. They also liked the performers, in particular Mercutio who was the most convincing actor, representing an instinctive boy living his youth in full. Now, they are looking forward to their next experience at the theatre! Well done everybody!
